Understanding Europe is a project by the Schwarzkopf Foundation and the European Youth Parliament España in cooperation with the TUI Foundation.
The nonpartisan Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe was founded in 1971 by Pauline Schwarzkopf in Hamburg, which is now based in Berlin (Germany). The purpose of the Foundation is to promote the development of young people into politically aware and responsible background, aiming at strengthening the European spirit and its values.
The Schwarzkopf Foundation offers a space for dialogue between young people aged between 16 and 28 years and personalities from the current political, economic and cultural life. It also provides young people with information on processes and decisions made at a European level. In addition, the Foundation invites the youth to discussions, which are politically relevant and important for young people in Europe, offering them many opportunities to get involved. It initiated the project Understanding Europe in 2013.

The European Youth Parliament (EYP) is a unique educational programme which brings together young people from all over Europe to discuss current topics in a parliamentary setting. As a network of independent associations, EYP is present in 40 European countries and organises almost 600 events every year. The EYP network organises almost 1.500 days of EYP activity every year, involving close to 35.000 participants. Thousands of young people are active as volunteers all over Europe, making EYP a programme truly for young people, by young people. The European Youth Parliament España (EYPE) is the organisation that represents Spain within the whole of the European Youth Parliament network. The EYPE is integrated by students that participate in the different activitiesorganised throughout the year by members of the EYP. The EYP’s mission is to inspire and empower young Europeans to become open-minded, tolerant and active citizens. From its foundation the EYPE has celebrated 10 National Selection Conferences, 4 International Forums and more than 30 regional sessions and GA Days. EYP Spain is honoured to introduce Understanding Europe at its school this year.
